ABOUT

ARM stands for Art, Recreation & Movement.

Founded in 2012 as a 501c3 non-profit organization, ARM’s mission is to use the Creative Arts to restore and empower individuals who have been commercially sexually exploited through human trafficking or are at risk for being trafficked.  ARM stands for Art, Recreation and Movement.  We use these and other modalities as trauma informed care.

The horror of being trafficked affects every aspect of a person’s life.  Our goal is to provide a variety of programs to enable each individual to “find their voice” and reclaim their lives.

We know from studies of trauma that:

      • The speech centers of the brain are inhibited.
      • The nerve pathways that would enable someone to relate to themselves and others, find enjoyment in living, make good decisions and have hope are interrupted
      • The recovery process requires ways to reconnect these pathways.
      • The creative arts are proven methods of restoration and empowerment

According the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services “When victims had access to trauma -specific services, they recovered from the trafficking experience more quickly and were better able to work on other aspects of their lives.  Providing alternatives to traditional therapies for victims was reported to improve client recovery time and outcomes.  Alternatives to traditional therapies, especially those that build self-esteem, empowerment, and re-connection with self, are considered important adjunct services for this population.”

ARM of Care brings these types of trauma-specific programs to the staffs and survivors we serve.

ARM of Care partners with residential and day programs in Northern California which serve this population.

Individuals robbed of love, kindness, gentleness, grace, and courage have a right to these truths. They can be reached, restored and “ARM” themselves with creative tools for self-care.

Healing from the inside out!
